SET APART BIO

Set Apart is a Gospel music group made up of four young men from the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee who truly love the Lord. They
took their name straight out of the Bible in Psalms 4:3 - "But know that the Lord hath Set Apart him that is godly for himself". Though a new group, members Scotty Garrett, Nathan Horton, Bryan Simmons, and Jacob Frady love to tell the old story of Jesus and his love in song.
Scotty Garrett, 27 (Oct. 29th), of Cookeville, TN, began singing with some of his family, The Shannon Family, in East Tennessee as a
teenager. Some of the major influences in his music come from The McKameys, The Primitive Quartet, The Perrys, Inspirations, and The Jody Brown Indian Family, who he says, are "What sincere gospel music is all about." He plays the guitar and sings lead, baritone, and tenor.
Scotty joined with a local singing group from Sparta, TN and met Nathan Horton. Soon the two, along with Bryan Simmons, Nathan's first
cousin (their mothers are twin sisters), began branching out into the singing ministry that the Lord was leading them to.
Nathan Horton, 21 (Oct. 7th), is a preacher's kid and lives in Quebeck, TN. He plays the guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and anything else he picks up. Before Set Apart, Nathan only played instruments. Then, the Lord got a hold of him, and after he asked Jesus into his heart Nathan's talents really bloomed since he was saved and now he sings in the new group. He sings lead, baritone, and tenor. Nathan lists the Primitive Quartet (Especially Mike Riddle), as his primary musical influence.
Bryan Simmons, 21 (Jan. 17th), who also lives in Quebeck, TN. He is as dedicated and sincere to his Lord and his music as he is tall, and he stand right at 6' 7". Bryan plays the mandolin and guitar, and sings lead and baritone. Some of the musical influences he mentions are The Primitive Quartet, The McKameys, and several others.
Jacob Frady, 17 from Pikeville, TN is the newest member of Set Apart, and he plays the up-right bass, and also sings some too. He is a blessing to the group. He is the youngest of the four members, and he answered the call to preach at a very young age. Some of his musical influences are The McKameys, The Inspirations, and The Primitive Quartet.
Set Apart's first project together is entitled "Going Home". Many of the 11 songs revolve around the Going Home theme including: "I'll Soon Be Gone." "I'd Like To Go Back," "Come Go With Me," "Home Where I Belong". They are honored to be associated with Lighthouse Promotions (Church Hill, TN) and Krystal Clear Recording Studios (Mt. Airy, NC). Their second project "Old Time Religion" is due to be released in Jan 2002, With a 2nd nation wide, radio single release on Lighthouse Promotions Radio CD Vol 20.

Peg McKamey Bean, matriarch of southern gospel music group The McKameys, said she has kept Set Apart's new project in her car to
listen to, but promises to take it out so husband Ruben can get to listen to it. She said, "Set Apart has a real smooth harmony that I love."
Set Apart are not ones to draw attention to themselves. In fact, they talk little on stage. They don't do comedy (except for what comes natural) on stage. They don't come to entertain, but to worship. They are committed to taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world, and desire your prayers on their journey.
